Shortlisted nominees announced for the Amsterdam Innovation Award 2016 from record number of entries

The jury of the 11th edition of the ISSA/INTERCLEAN Amsterdam Innovation Awards has today announced the nine shortlisted nominees from a record total of 110 entries.

The overall winner and the three category winners will be announced by the jury during the special award ceremony at the ISSA/INTERCLEAN Amsterdam Show on Tuesday 10 May 2016. At the same ceremony, the Visitors’ Choice Award will be awarded to the entry that receives most votes from visitors to the show.

In the “Machines, Accessories and Components” category, shortlisted entries are Sealed Air Diversey Care for the TASKI SWINGOBOT 755, Cleanfix Reinigungssysteme for the RA 660 NAVI, and Kärcher with their BRC 40/22 C.

The second category covers “Equipment/tools for Cleaning, Care and Safety” and here the SpillEX from Vileda Professional FHCS, Werner & Mertz’s Professional Quick & Easy System, and Newell Europe’s Lumecel Microburst 3000 Air Care Dispenser were the pick of the many entries.

The third and final category is for “Management, Training Solutions and Related Products” with Sealed Air Diversey Care’s Augmented Reality Suma Revoflow, Kärcher’s Connected Cleaning concept, and the Tork EasyCube from SCA being the three shortlisted nominees.

Chair of the Amsterdam Innovation Award jury Michelle Marshall commented: “This year, the jury was nearly overwhelmed by the record number of entries. The 110 entries prove that the industry is increasingly committed to innovation - particularly when you compare the sheer number of this year’s entries to the 66 entries received for the 2014 competition.

“I was also interested to note that the 110 entries were submitted by 66 companies from 20 different countries proving that innovation in our industry is truly international. On this point, the top countries in terms of the number of entries submitted this year are the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom. They are closely followed by both the Netherlands and France.

“Noteworthy trends in the entries this year included the breakthrough of autonomous robotic cleaning machines, Similarly, other technology innovations took a prominent role in the competition with many entries based on software and apps to report on, analyse, and visualise the data produced by remotely managed, internet-connected devices.

“The trend towards sustainability also figured large again this year proving that it is very much here to stay and we continue to see new products that use less water, energy and chemicals. Not only that, these innovations have also been manufactured using more environmentally conscious methods than ever before and with an eye on the total life cycle impact.” In addition to jury chair Michelle Marshall, who is Chief Editor of European Cleaning Journal, other members of the judging panel were: Reinhard Knittler, the Publisher of German cleaning magazine Reinigungs Markt; Paolo Pellizzari, Editor Pulizia Industriale e Sanificazione from Italy; Pierre Deschamps Chief Editor of Batiment Entretien magazine based in France; Rob Geissler who is Publisher of the US-based Sanitary Maintenance, Contracting Profits, Housekeeping Solutions portfolio of magazines; Cor van der Velden, Chief Expert at Skills Netherlands; Dick van Zomeren, the Editor of Service Management magazine in The Netherlands; Ton van der Riet, Managing Director of Senzora, The Netherlands; and Antonio Borreda the Director Revista Limpiezas from Spain.

All nominated products will be showcased throughout the ISSA/INTERCLEAN Amsterdam 2016 exhibition in the InnovationLAB. Designed to enable exhibitors and visitors to share their knowledge and experiences in the field of innovation, it is an inspiring environment where pioneering products and revolutionary ideas are presented.

“New products have always been an important feature of the show and the InnovationLAB brings a further dimension to the existing concept. It adds an inspiring physical presence to the show floor where visitors come face-to-face with the latest developments in the industry,” explained Rob den Hertog, Manager ISSA/INTERCLEAN Amsterdam.

The Amsterdam Innovation Award supports the African Medical & Research Foundation (AMREF) Flying Doctors, and their projects in Africa providing accessible water and sanitary facilities for the community.

The InnovationLAB is located in hall 9.
