News from the CHSA: Proud to Support the Cleaning Industry in 2022

“The cleaning industry is a huge contributor to the UK economy, and we are proud to have supported it in 2022, setting standards and advocating a Roadmap to Sustainability,” said Lorcan Mekitarian, chair of the Cleaning & Hygiene Suppliers Association.

During 2022 the CHSA maintained its commitment to standards. In addition to the rigorous product audits conducted by its Independent Inspector, the Association introduced a programme of auditing the marketing claims made about the products. Lorcan explained: “We guarantee our members trade ethically, and so we now check all claims are supported with appropriate evidence, available on request.”

The CHSA also acted to protect the integrity of its Accreditation Schemes. The Association issued a ‘cease and desist’ order to a manufacturer falsely claiming CHSA Accredited status. Lorcan continued: “We will always act to protect the Schemes’ integrity so buyers and users of cleaning and hygiene products can trust the mark. Our standards, your guarantee.”

In 2022 the CHSA evolved its Roadmap to Sustainability. Ethical and environmental sustainability is one of the biggest challenges facing the industry. The Roadmap offers a framework businesses in the sector can use to develop their own sustainability strategies.

The CHSA has been proud to back a range of initiatives, led by others in the industry. These have included the British Cleaning Council’s All Party Parliamentary Group, and the Kimberly-Clark Golden Service Awards.

The CHSA also continued to give something back in 2022. Three young people went to university in September with the support of a Bursary from the CHSA. The Bursary, worth £4,500 over three years, is open to the children of CHSA members’ employees. In addition, the CHSA raised £5,000 for Grief Encounter at its Gala Ball, adding to the £20,000 the Association raised for the charity in previous years. The funds have been used by Grief Encounter to support bereaved children and young people.
