Carlson-STI: Proven Leader for Machine Design Serving the Needs of the Brush Making Industry

Under the leadership of John M. Carlson, the company introduced 5-axis computerized staple-set machines with pattern generation in 1980. Nowadays, Carlson-STI offers a full range of semi-automatic, custom computerized and automated brush making equipment.
Today, Carlson-STI is situated in a 50,000 square foot building in Elgin, Illinois, where they continue to design and develop new brush making solutions. Keeping the current global economic situation in mind, Carlson-STI has introduced two new universal drill and fill machine models, available in both 2 and 3 axes. This new equipment provides customers a flexible low-cost brush making solution.
Some of Carlson-STI’s most innovative machines include:

- Carlson model UDF -4: A very economical drill and tufting machine with a 4-axis servo for brooms and brushes up to 24” long. It is easily changed from 6” unfolded material to 9.5” or 13” material. Many holder sets and table mechanisms from #17 and #10 machine can be easily incorporated.
- Carlson model UDF – 3: An economy 2/3 axis drill and tufting machine with disc style tables to 30” and lag tables to 8’ of travel. Drill sizes are from 1/8” to 3/8”.
- Carlson model UAM-V: Automatic nylon spool feed for round applicator brush stem. Flat and angled guillotine trims are standard with this machine. Machine speed is VFD (120 -190 cpm) with fiber optic tuft presence and stem presence. The tooling wheel is indexed with a servo motor gear box.
- Carlson model UAM-C: This employs the same tufting system as with the UAM-V, with a 4’ chain-style stem-index system that lends itself to oval shaped applicators with profile trimmers.
- Carlson model 41 unifill: New style, formed steel frame. The new unifill has been redesigned to use all standard parts. It has all the same capacity as with the UDF tufting head.
- Carlson V tech: The simple strip cutter that cuts and closes strip brushes up to .060 X 1.5” strip in stainless or mild steel. Pneumatically powered and 24VDC trigger.
- Carlson Wood and two flute high-speed offered in cobalt or carbide.
