CMS Berlin, The Meeting Place for the Cleaning Industry, Displays its Innovations

• Opening tour with State Secretary for Construction Alexander Slotty
• Digitalisation and sustainability are key industry topics
• Purus Innovation Award honours outstanding products

From 19 to 22 September 2023 the international cleaning industry is meeting on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds again for the eleventh edition of the leading trade fair for cleaning and hygiene. This is the first time CMS Berlin is being held as an in-person event since 2019, following its postponement due to the pandemic in 2021. “At last, the long wait is over. We are very happy to be able to meet face-to-face, exchange views and experience innovations first-hand again. CMS Berlin is a platform for dialogue that gathers all the leading players in Berlin: the industry, associations and trade visitors“, said Dirk Hoffmann, COO of Messe Berlin.

State Secretary for Construction Alexander Slotty: “With its unique spectrum and supporting programme, the trade fair for cleaning systems, building management and services offers a meeting place for the entire international industry here in Berlin. I am delighted that our city is once again hosting this platform for expert dialogue, product presentations and business deals. The cleaning industry is vital for the upkeep of buildings and infrastructure.”

The leading trade fair for cleaning and hygiene presents a comprehensive overview of the market for commercial cleaning products, systems and methods. Some 421 exhibitors from 25 countries (2019: 448/25) are showing their latest products on an area covering 31,000 square metres inside the halls and on the outdoor display areas. Exhibitors have announced 86 innovations, 29 of which are trade fair premieres and 9 world premieres.

Innovation drivers: digitalisation and sustainability
Digitalisation, AI and sustainability are among the main innovation drivers. A new generation of independent cleaning robots as well as automated business processes mean that digitalisation has reached new levels in the cleaning industry too. Despite progress, the building cleaning trade remains labour-intensive, with staff shortages increasingly impacting growth.

Thomas Dietrich, national guild master of the Building Cleaning Trade (BIV): “Together with recruitment, digitalisation and sustainability remain the key topics in our industry. The circular economy, reducing CO2 emissions and avoiding waste are just as important for our innovation and service-oriented trade as incorporating increasing levels of automation, robotics and AI in the day-to-day working environment. We look forward to discussing all these challenges and visions at CMS Berlin.”

Frank Ulbricht, chairman of the Cleaning Systems Trade Association of the German Engineering Federation (VDMA): "Mechanisation and automation continue to make cleaning processes more sustainable, efficient and ergonomic. At CMS 2023 we will see many innovative new technical solutions and concepts for this. I find that inspiring!".

Markus Häfner, chairman of the Building Cleaning Department of the German industrial Union of Hygiene and Surface Protection for Industrial and Institutional Applications (IHO): “Looking ahead to CMS Berlin, cleaning agent manufacturers are well equipped to decisively help boost the building cleaning trade’s transformation where sustainability and digitalisation are concerned.“

Purus Innovation Award and Mobility Cleaning Circle
On 19 September the CMS Purus Innovation Award (PIA) will honour six winners for their outstanding innovations in the categories Large Machines, Small Machines, Equipment, Washroom Hygiene, Digital Tools and Systems and Detergents. A nine-member jury of high-profile experts will assess the entries and decide on the winners. The finalists will be featured in a special display in Hall 5.2.

Another highlight is the third edition of the Mobility Cleaning Circles on 20 September. This exclusive networking event will discuss cleaning challenges and solutions in the mobility sector. During the fair, exhibitors at CMS will carry out cleaning of both the interior and exterior of a public transport bus located between Halls 1.2 and 3.2.
