Robot That Can Sing, Tell Jokes and ‘Cry’ to Star at the Manchester Cleaning Show 2020

Innovation a key theme of the North’s largest trade and hygiene show

A cleaning robot which can sing, tell jokes and will ‘cry’ if you don’t get out of its way is set to be one of the main attractions at this year’s Manchester Cleaning Show. The Singaporean-made LeoBot, which is said to be the most advanced robotic cleaner in the world, has just been launched in the UK by Killis.

Visitors will be able to see it for themselves at the North of England’s biggest cleaning and hygiene trade show, on 25 to 26 March at Event City, Greater Manchester. The show, which is free to attend, features a wide range of national and international exhibitors as well as an exciting conference programme of talks by leading industry figures and experts. Advance registrations for the show continue to run at record levels.

The LeoBot autonomous cleaning robot is designed to be engaging, friendly and fun. With human names such as ‘Ella’ or Charlotte’, they can hold basic conversations and mimic emotional responses, using their expressive ‘eyes’ and via their vocal responses. They are ‘cobots’ – robots that are designed to be collaborative with humans and have proved a smash-hit in Singapore, where they were first unveiled last year.

Launched here last month, the UK is only the third country in the world where they are on sale.

Quote from Killis here: “The LeoBot is the most advanced cleaning robot in the world technically but it is in the way it interacts with people that it really stands out.

“It is designed to have a personality that is polite, friendly and diligent, so customers and colleagues enjoy working with it and are reassured. In Cleaning Mode, it will politely ask people to move out of its way and then ‘cry’ if they don’t.

“In Greeting Mode it can do much more, such as asking your name, if you have a hobby or a favourite food, tell simple jokes, laugh and sing. Children love them and people often take selfies with it. They are crowd pleasers that bring fun and delight.

“This personality makes LeoBot totally different to any other robot cleaning machine on market. It is the future of cleaning. Visitors to the Manchester Cleaning Show will love it.”

Made by LionsBot, each robot has a logo on its front containing a piece of sand from Singapore. The LeoBots are only one example of the exciting attractions on display which are helping make this year’s Manchester Cleaning Show the biggest and best yet.

There’s a real mix of exhibitors, from the household names that everyone in the cleaning sector recognises, to smaller but still well-known businesses and a fair mix of newer firms.
To name just a few, other exhibitors include:
  • ICE – which will be showing the Robo 3 fully autonomous cleaning machine and other products
  • The Floorbrite Group - an award-winning firm which is one of the UK’s largest cleaning and facilities manageIment companies
  • Toucan Eco - one of the pioneers of sustainable cleaning

Attending the Manchester Cleaning Show also gives delegate the chance to connect with colleagues in the industry and take advantage of many opportunities for business deals.
The Manchester Cleaning Show is organised by the British Cleaning Council (BCC) and Quartz Business Media.

Neil Nixon, Conference Director, said: “We have a fantastic array of national and international exhibitors taking part in this year’s Manchester Cleaning Show. Wherever you look, you will see fascinating products and new ideas on display and with many exciting innovations in the key fields of technology and sustainability.”

Chairman of the BCC, Paul Thrupp, said: “If you haven’t registered to come to the show, then we urge you to do so now or you will miss out. The Manchester Cleaning Show is a must-see for anyone connected with the industry in the North of England and it is totally free.”

Lorcan Mekitarian, General Manager of Berry bpi recycled products and new chairman of the Cleaning and Hygiene Suppliers Association (CHSA), is one of the expert industry figures who are taking part in the conference programme. Mr Mekitarian said: “I was delighted to be asked to speak on such an important topic as single use plastics. My message is simple - the whole supply chain will have to change their mind-set to think at the design stage about end of life for their products, its collection, recycling and use back into other products."
