Hillbrush Gets Set For 100th Birthday Celebrations

Next year (2022) marks the 100th birthday of Hillbrush, the UK’s largest, and longest established, manufacturer of traditional brushes and specialist cleaning tools and a jam-packed year of celebrations is planned.

A new logo has been developed for the company to reflect this significant milestone, with a commemorative book written by chairman Philip Coward reflecting on 100 years of the family business to be launched in January. Mid-summer will see staff celebrations and several fundraising initiatives in aid of the Royal Warrant Holders Associations Charity Fund. A special reception will be held for customers and suppliers in September 2022 at the company HQ in Mere. Commemorative items, including a specially designed ‘birthday brush’ will be for sale in the Hillbrush visitor centre shop throughout the year.

Hillbrush is also investing in its Mere site with a new Centenary building, housing warehousing and staff facilities including an indoor putting green, table tennis and picnic area. Solar panels are being introduced to buildings throughout the site too as part of Hillbrush’s continued environmental commitment.

Founded in 1922 by brothers Fred and Bill Coward in rural town of Mere in Wiltshire, Hill brush is still family owned and run. The company originally manufactured brushes for the dairy and agricultural industries and in 1981 Hillbrush was granted a Royal Warrant to supply traditional brushes to the Royal Households and retains the Warrant to this day.

In the 1980s the business diversified, and, through innovation and product development, it successfully introduced a range of plastic backed brushes for use in the food and beverage industries. In 2016 Hillbrush moved site, still in Mere, to a new, purpose built and state of the art facility enabling them to manufacture the broad range of brushes now on offer. The new site also houses the ‘Visit Hillbrush’ visitor centre combining a boutique gift shop, restaurant serving delicious home-made dishes and a fascinating – and completely unique - brush museum!

David Hagelthorn, head of marketing at Hillbrush commented: “Hillbrush is a British manufacturing institution that has innovated and diversified with the times but stayed true to its family values. We are all very excited about next year’s 100th birthday and the marketing team is working on a number of projects to celebrate this fantastic achievement with both staff and customers.”
