Abtex Corp. solves difficult fine-blanking deburring problem
An automotive manufacturer producing a wide range of fine-blanked parts approached Abtex Corp. with a difficult deburring problem and Abtex responded with a customized version of its popular Tri-Ten Deburring System.
Most of this customer’s parts are flat and straightforward to deburr and radius. However, one small part contains a semi-punched, mushroom-shaped “button.” Any burr on this button affects its fit with another part, and consequently, its performance.
Abtex’s Tri-Ten employs a planetary-head design, featuring one or more dome-shaped deburring heads, each of which holds either three flap discs or three nylon abrasive brushes, offering maximum deburring flexibility.
To deburr and radius the flat parts, Abtex engineers outfitted the first of two planetary heads with flap discs and the second with brushes. For the part with the mushroom-shaped button, the flap discs are quickly exchanged for brushes that Abtex designed specifically for the task, with an aggressive-grit to deburr every surface of the part, including the button.
